In 2015 I designed Schwab's first robo-advisor, an autonomous system now managing $100B, before the industry called this kind of product agentic. I also designed their first native mobile apps. I built Schwab's UX practice from 5 people to 250, then led a 400-person design organization serving 110M customers at CVS Health.
I'm still building and shipping today. My latest builds are Surf Vikings and Helios, two products I designed and shipped end to end with Cursor and Claude Code.

Founded the AI Design Lab. Drove experience coherence across four brands through reusable design and shared code. Led the conversational and design teams for the Aetna Health AI suite, built for transparency and user control.

First VP of UX at Schwab. Built the culture, career ladders, and process for a modern practice, then merged TD Ameritrade's design and research organization into it after the largest acquisition in brokerage history. Led research and product design across every consumer, enterprise, and internal surface at Schwab, for investors, advisors, and employees.
First robo-advisor at Schwab. Now $100B AUM.
Led the design of an autonomous AI system that builds, monitors, and rebalances portfolios without human intervention, shipped on native iOS, Android, and responsive web. Extended it into a white-label platform for advisors, and a premium offering that added detailed financial planning and live collaboration with Schwab Financial Advisors. It solved the trust, legibility, and orchestration problems that now define agentic UX, before the category had a name.

Designed screens hands-on and led the team that built the rest. First in brokerage with mobile check deposit, plus multiple design patents. By 2015, 40% of Schwab clients used the apps as their primary investing interface.

A live surf forecasting product for Northern California.
I built it because I needed it. 64 NorCal breaks from Salt Point to Santa Cruz, including ones the major forecast apps ignore, each with its own scoring model reading live NOAA buoy spectra instead of a regional average. 25 years of local knowledge encoded into a per-spot score, validated with the surfers who ride them.

The orchestration layer my house was missing.
Designed, built, and shipped end to end in eight days, running my house ever since. Under NEM 3.0, PG&E pays $0.04/kWh for exported solar and charges up to $0.58/kWh to buy it back, so timing became the whole game. Enphase solar, a Tesla Powerwall, a wall charger, and a Rivian, each with its own app and none of them talking. Helios manages the battery autonomously and pushes the calls it cannot make itself to my phone, with the reason written down for every one.
